Whenever you hear a preacher mention “favor”, you can bet the crowd will give a big cheer. No one wants to hear about controlling the tongue, disciplining the flesh or studying the Bible. But just mention the word FAVOR and people jump out of their seats. Why?
Favor is a topic that reminds us that the struggle is almost over. Favor means God will “work it out” some kind of way. People think FAVOR means you can just get blessed without any effort. You can live in sin, disobedience, strife, dissension, adultery, fear, doubt and discord, but you walk in the “fava’ of de Laud”.
Not exactly.
The bible says if you are willing and obedient you’ll eat the good of the land. God will bless you with FAVOR according to your obedience. That doesn’t mean you work for favor because favor is God’s unmerited grace upon your life. It doesn’t make sense for God to pour out favor and blessings on a lazy, lascivious, mean-spirited soul. His ultimate goal is our wholeness.
So the next time you hear the preacher yell FAVOR… go ahead and shout, but when the shouting is over, be sure to check yourself… selah!
