The Heat… of Emotions

I’ve been thinking about how to respond when in the midst of negative emotions. It’s so easy to feel ok when all is going well. However, when you’re slammed with an issue that challenges your spiritual maturity or emotional growth, that’s when the bible in you becomes a reality, and not just your personal theology.

Going to church, reading the bible, singing praise songs, living Holy, loving people, submitting to authorities, giving tithes is all great as a Christian.

But what happens to you when the heat is on? What happens when you’re so angry or so offended that you want to curse somebody out. That’s the real test of the God in you.

It’s easy to go to church and do the things I mentioned above when you’re on an emotional high. But you really must “work the word” when the heat is on you.

Never bow to negative emotions… never give in to satan’s traps… never doubt God’s word in you… Bring on the heat… I’m ready! Are you?

You can go through… or go through…

I just read an awesome tweet from Pastor Rick Warren that says “When you’re going through hell, keep going.” It’s pretty self-explanatory.

Consider this: The bible doesn’t promise that Christians won’t have trials and tribulations. In fact, in the book of James, it says WHEN you go through trials, not IF, but WHEN you go through, we should consider it pure joy. Whatever “hell” you’re going through now… just keep going!!! This too shall pass. NOW GO THROUGH IT!!! God Bless You Faith Walkers!

The Warrior – Part II

Many people read last’s week blog about spiritual warfare and didn’t have the energy or enthusiasm to look up the scriptures yet.

Let me help you!

How bad do you want to win? How bad do you want to live in victory? I was so desperate to live in victory that I fought with everything. I walked through the grocery store saying scriptures and crying out to God for freedom under my breath. I taped together a Walkman (in 2009, no less) just so I could have the Word playing at all times.

I was hungry and I was desperate.  If you didn’t look up scriptures last week, then start small. Look up 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 and spend the next week meditating and memorizing it! It’s not a gigantic step, but at least you’re getting started.

I encourage you to take the first step.

Get your scriptures and enjoy this awesome song from Canton Jones!

Hello Children… Goodbye Selfishness!

Me and my boys!

I used to wonder why I didn’t hear my favorite preachers and teachers talk about parenting much. Now that I have two children, and one on the way, I know why. To be blunt, parenting is HARD WORK.

Trust me. I am not making a negative confession. It’s simple realism. I never knew how much I HAD TO CHANGE until I had my first child six years ago.

What’s the biggest challenge?

Selfishness. Plain and simple.

I had lived selfishly for so long that I didn’t think it was possible to give the way you must give to children. Even after I got married, I remained selfish. But when it comes to your little offspring, you just can’t be selfish. You really can’t. In fact, you should just kiss selfishness goodbye because children need YOU more than your money, your food, your clothes… they need you.

Is it easy?
No.
Is it glamorous?
No.
Is it fun everyday?
No.
Is it the most rewarding thing in the world?
Yes.
So I traded in selfishness for something greater… unconditional love for my kids. My love for them propels me past my selfish tendencies.

It’s priceless.

The Warrior – Part I

Spiritual Warfare is not pretty. It’s just plain ugly. It involves a constant, consistent diet of God’s word. Christians have turned warfare into something spooky and scary. The scariest part about warfare is an anorexic spirit that doesn’t fight back.

Recently, I started meditating on God’s word in 2 Corinthian 10:4 that says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.”

God has given us a key clue in the battle. If we think we can win a spiritual battle with physical weapons, we’re already defeated. I spent YEARS in defeat because I didn’t take the time to learn God’s word concerning warfare. When you’re in the midst of battle, remember this: God has given you everything you need to fight.

Look up every warfare scripture you can find and say them daily.

You have a mighty weapon: the Word of God… now get ready to fight!
