Digging up James

Have you ever read the Book of James in the Bible? More specifically, have you  read James, Chapter 1? Lately, I’ve been quite enamored by this passage because it addresses so much in the Christian life. It deals with temptation, sin, stability, wisdom, love, the mouth and so much more.  Instead of reading a passage or a few passages a day and then forgetting what I read, I decided to do something different.

I decided to stick to one passage until I really “got” something out of it. So each day, I’ve been reading and thinking a lot about James, Chapter 1. It’s interesting because I want to read something else, but I feel like I’m not quite ready to move on. I can get so much more insight by reading and meditating, which is saying it over and over, on this one passage. I don’t have great revelation or commentary on this yet. I just wanted to share it with you. Maybe you’ve had a similar experience. Let me know!

Shedding Shame

Recently I did a presentation in front of some “important” people. It was interesting because I had everything planned out perfectly. However, as God would have it the presentation turned out differently. The Lord wanted me to share something personal with the audience that I did NOT want to share. In fact, as it got closer to my presentation time, I privately struggled with “sharing my business.”

I battled with feeling ashamed that people would look down on me or think differently about who they thought I was in Christ.

I asked myself the question before standing up. Do I really care what people think? To a certain degree I do care.  However, I care much more about what God thinks. I knew I had to do what He wanted. He required I “shed my shame and go for it!” The room was silent. Did it work? I don’t know.

I do know one thing. Time will only tell whether or not my story made an impact on the people in the room. Even if it didn’t impact them… it sure impacted me.

The Beauty of Light

Have you ever been inside a dark tunnel for a period of time and wondered when you’d get to the end?  Perhaps you’ve been on a subway train that seemed to take too long to arrive at the next station.  Life can be that way.

Oftentimes as human beings we travel through darkness for so long that the light seems quite distant. However, just at that moment when you thought the darkness would last forever, light breaks in and breaks forth. It’s beautiful.  We have the opportunity to get that light everyday when we read God’s word.

We could actually be in a terribly dark place personally and one scripture or one passage from the Bible could provide much-needed light in our lives. That’s the beauty of being a Christian and the wonder of reading God’s word.
