Being Fruitful

Strawberries by Pablo Fernández Burgueño

One of my goals for 2010 was to study and implement the fruit of the spirit from Galatians Chapter 5 in the Bible.  I took a wonderful online bible study course from Beth Moore entitled Living Beyond Yourself.

It was only a 10-week course, however, it took me nine months to complete. It was challenging. There were moments when I couldn’t take the heaviness of the material because I was quite convicted. And yet, I trudged through it.

Throughout the year, I was presented with several challenging situations that tested whether my fruit was developed or not. It was sobering. I cried. I laughed. I danced. I screamed. I prayed.

I went through every emotion while going through the course and I came out victorious. I can look back at the year and say with confidence that I have much more developed “fruit on my tree” than this time last year. Now, here comes the fun part… maintaining the fruit. It’s a journey!

Digging up James

Have you ever read the Book of James in the Bible? More specifically, have you  read James, Chapter 1? Lately, I’ve been quite enamored by this passage because it addresses so much in the Christian life. It deals with temptation, sin, stability, wisdom, love, the mouth and so much more.  Instead of reading a passage or a few passages a day and then forgetting what I read, I decided to do something different.

I decided to stick to one passage until I really “got” something out of it. So each day, I’ve been reading and thinking a lot about James, Chapter 1. It’s interesting because I want to read something else, but I feel like I’m not quite ready to move on. I can get so much more insight by reading and meditating, which is saying it over and over, on this one passage. I don’t have great revelation or commentary on this yet. I just wanted to share it with you. Maybe you’ve had a similar experience. Let me know!
