And the winner is…. last place!

Sitting in the Back (Photo: A. da Silva Parreira)

“He sat down and summoned the Twelve. “So you want first place? Then take the last place. Be the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35 The Message)

I was awestruck while reading this passage. It’s clear and concise. No ambiguity. No interpretation needed. No bible dictionary or lexicons needed. It’s plain and simple. If you want to be first, then take the back seat. Allow yourself to be used by God and put others first. I know it can be hard because we’re human and we want “our stuff”.

However, God’s word is clear. Let’s move over… go to the back and let God work.  The journey continues…

The Heat… of Emotions

I’ve been thinking about how to respond when in the midst of negative emotions. It’s so easy to feel ok when all is going well. However, when you’re slammed with an issue that challenges your spiritual maturity or emotional growth, that’s when the bible in you becomes a reality, and not just your personal theology.

Going to church, reading the bible, singing praise songs, living Holy, loving people, submitting to authorities, giving tithes is all great as a Christian.

But what happens to you when the heat is on? What happens when you’re so angry or so offended that you want to curse somebody out. That’s the real test of the God in you.

It’s easy to go to church and do the things I mentioned above when you’re on an emotional high. But you really must “work the word” when the heat is on you.

Never bow to negative emotions… never give in to satan’s traps… never doubt God’s word in you… Bring on the heat… I’m ready! Are you?

Feeling Annoyed?

For the past few days, I’ve been feeling pretty annoyed. I’m praying and reading the bible, but something has been missing. I couldn’t put my finger on it until late tonight. Although I’m doing all of the “religious” things that Christians do, none of it matters.

Why?

Because I’m not walking in love. I know that’s a religious phrase, but it’s really true. I’ve had such a quarrelsome, contentious spirit that I’ve annoyed myself. The challenge: not showing love! If I really love God and love others as myself, then I won’t have such a judgmental attitude right now. My prayer is that God would forgive me and help me to show love, even when I don’t feel like it. The journey continues…

Many of you have seen this amazing short video featuring Tamara Lowe. While watching it again, I was amazed at her special gift. It reminded me of how God gives everyone a talent or gifting to be used for Him.
