The $62 Family Vacation

I am not participating in the recession. Period. Yes, I have at least six family members that have lost their jobs. Yes, I have friends and family that have lost their homes. Yes, I obsess over my own checkbook to squeeze whatever I can out of it.  But am I participating in the recession? NO!!!! With that said, I DECIDED TO DEFY THE RECESSION by continuing our family’s tradition to have a family vacation (or shall I say staycation).  We did it despite the residue of the recession. For a mere $62, my family of four enjoyed a terrific, local overnight vacation. Here’s what we did:

  1. $19 of groceries from Aldi (this cut out restaurant and vending food).
  2. $10 on tickets to Thursday Night Racing Thunder at Atlanta Motor Speedway (lots of fun with free games and exciting racing during kid’s night)
  3. Used Marriott rewards points plus received points from my beloved Brother K for free night stay at hotel (FREE ROOM IN A NEW HOTEL!!!!)
  4. All you can eat FREE breakfast at hotel (FREE… YES FREE BREAKFAST PEOPLE!)
  5. $33 for local beach with slides, kiddie pools, playgrounds, beach fun etc. (This was a little pricey but it was worth it. We stayed for hours to get our money’s worth)

Our grand total was a little over $62! Even though things are tight , my husband and offsprings were thrilled when we got home! We got a little creative, invested time in researching deals and jumped right in.  Its better to dig deep to make things happen instead of feeling discouraged when things are tough. Yep, you can do it! It’ll be worth it in the end.
